White Goods

Good for White Goods

With rapid economic growth and a rising middle class in the Middle East, the consumption of household goods has been growing rapidly. As a result, white goods such as refrigerators and washing machines are one of the top markets to have benefitted from this trend. For example, in 2012 alone, the Gulf region imported 134,000 TEU of white goods, worth nearly US$3 billion.

Even before the expansion of its container terminal, SOHAR had more than enough room to serve the Saudi Arabian and Iranian white goods markets. And with plans to grow container throughput, first to 1.5 million TEU, and then to 4.5 million TEU from 2018, the white goods sector promises some exciting returns.
